National Leap Day - Take Back "Your" Day!

Posted for Brad:

In kindergarten, we were taught that there are 365 days in a year.
Later on in life we were taught that there are actually 365.25 days that give us a leap day every 4 years. This was fun because one of our teachers happened to be born on a leap day. We could then tease him by saying that he was only 9 years old or something like that.

Still later on in life, we learn that 365.25 isn't entirely right either because of the stipulation that there are no leap years in years also divisible by 100 unless they are divisible by 400.
So according to encyclopedia britannica, the actual length of a year is 365.242199.
Here is the problem, the business world operates on a kindergarten level, using the 365 days a year calculation. Next year there are going to be 366 days. What is going to be expected of you on that extra day? You are expected to go to work just like it is any other day.

It is not any other day. It is YOUR day. It is extra. It is free, you are free to do with that day whatever you wish. And I bet that you do not WISH to go to work.
Your employer did not give you an extra .242199 days off any of the previous years, so in 2008 who are they to expect you to give them your free day!

In my mind, this should most certainly be a national holiday. A glorious day off for everybody, because it is truly their day. There should be great parties and celebrations just because that is what we would want to do with our free time.
It is also convient that this year, leap day happens to fall on a friday. By observing this holiday, you will also be blessed with an extended weekend!

I for one will certainly NOT be going into work on February 29th 2008. That date should not even exist as far as the business world is concerned. And if anyone wants to attend, there will be a party at my house. (Size of the party is yet to be determined, depending on how many people buy into my idea).
